Sega

Sega

More than a local traditional music, Sega has today the status of cultural heritage of the UNESCO. This vibrant performing art, emblematic of the Creole community, was originally sung and danced by slaves. Today, it continues to exist thanks to the triangle, the maravanne, the ravanne and the djembe. The lyrics, written in Creole, are mainly about life, heartaches, uprooting and love. Dancers in beautiful colourful skirts or typical costumes accompagny the music and its frenetic rythm. It is a must, you have to learn to dance Sega during your stay!
